About My Therapeutic Services

Guiding You to Start on a Path of Self-Healing

Let’s talk—because life doesn’t come with a manual.

Whether you're feeling a little lost, overwhelmed, or just not quite yourself, counselling can give you a safe, confidential space to explore what’s going on and why. Sometimes life throws curveballs, and it’s okay to ask for support in catching them.

If you’re feeling stuck, second-guessing yourself, or simply needing some clarity, counselling can help you gently uncover what might be holding you back—and guide you toward the changes that feel right for you. No pressure, no rush—just support at your own pace.

I’m not here to hand out quick fixes (spoiler: they rarely work anyway). Therapy is a process—an empowering one that invites self-discovery, growth, and real change. Together, we’ll look at unhelpful patterns, explore tough emotions like fear or sadness, and work on building a toolkit that helps you move forward with confidence. As an integrative therapist, I blend different styles of therapy—like Humanistic, CBT, Psychodynamic, Solution-Focused, and Psychosexual—to suit your unique needs. It’s your journey, and I tailor everything to fit you.

My practice is fully inclusive and a proud, welcoming space for clients from all backgrounds, especially those from the LGBTQIA+ community. Everyone deserves to feel safe, heard, and valued. Expect warmth, empathy, understanding, and absolutely no judgment. We’ll work together in a relaxed, comfortable setting—and if you’re more of an outdoorsy soul, we can even take our sessions for a walk along the beautiful River Wharfe. Many people find the fresh air and flowing water add an extra layer of calm and clarity.

I offer both in-person and online sessions, as well as a variety of supportive services to meet your needs. My private practice is discreetly located in Boston Spa, with easy access from Leeds, Harrogate, and York—and there’s a free car park just a minute’s walk away. I am also able to see clients from my second practice in York or remotely- I see people all over the world!

Some people need counselling, some coaching and some accountability and connection to help them navigate life...some need a combo of a range of different things - we can figure out what's right for you.

I’m accredited by the National Counselling Society (NCS) and have enhanced DBS screening for your peace of mind.

Curious? Want to know more? Feel free to give me a ring for an informal chat—or drop me a text or email and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Let’s make your next chapter a little lighter, together.

Get to Know Me

Could we be a  great match? (No swiping needed)

Hi there, and welcome—I'm really glad you're here.

If you’re reading this, chances are you're already thinking about taking that first brave step toward therapy. And I get it—reaching out can feel big, even scary. But here's the truth: change starts with one small step, and you’ve already taken it by being here.

When you work with me, you'll be met with warmth, compassion, and absolutely no judgment. I genuinely love what I do—being a therapist is hands down the best job in the world. I get a front-row seat (with snacks!) to watch people grow, heal, and step into their best lives. You’ll never be just a name on a list- you'll matter to me! Building strong, real relationships where you feel heard, seen, and valued is at the heart of everything I do. We’ll cry together, laugh together, and celebrate every win—big or small—together. One lovely client once told me, "Katie, you’re the ally everyone needs on their sidelines-I can always be sure of your support" That’s exactly the kind of support I offer. My greatest issue with patients (not really an issue) is that they don't want to leave. When the work is done, they often want to stay and continue with check-in sessions. I think that says a lot about the relationships I build.

I’ve also walked my own therapeutic journey, and healing from trauma has shaped the way I work more than any textbook ever could. I know how hard life can be, and I also know that growth and happiness are possible—because I’ve lived it. And if I can do it, so can you.

As an integrative therapist, I tailor therapy to fit you—whether that’s through psychodynamic work, humanistic approaches, CBT, or a combination. I support people through all sorts of challenges (you honestly wouldn't believe the variation) and create a space where you can safely explore your experiences, process your emotions, and find a path forward that feels right for you.

Some of my special interests include:

  • Sex and intimacy issues

  • Body image & self-esteem

  • Dating & relationship coaching

  • Sexuality, gender, and LGBTQIA+ support

  • Neurodivergent coaching

  • Lipoedema support (emotional & physical impacts)

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as Head of SEND and Mental Health in a large Multi Academy Trust and was also senior leader of a Trauma Informed Practice School. I have years of experience supporting children, teens, and adults with additional needs—especially neurodiverse individuals and those with communication or behavioural challenges. I also offer support directly within academic settings, as well as training on mental health, neurodiversity, attachment, and inclusion—especially for transgender and gender-diverse young people.

A little more about me: I’m an animal lover to my core! I live with two gorgeous dogs and three mischievous (and totally bald) sphynx cats who moonlight as therapy pets. I’m happiest outside in nature, preferably with muddy boots and a flask of tea in hand. I'm utterly and unapologetically authentic and live a life I love, on my terms. I would describe myself as bold, brave and kind.

If you’re feeling unsure, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions and get a feel for whether I’m the right fit for you. Our first session is a chance to connect, talk about what you’re hoping for from therapy, and see how we might work together.

I’d love to hear from you when you're ready.

Warmly,
Katie x

Accessibility

Committed to Your Needs

Accessibility & Inclusivity at Dare Amour

I want everyone who walks through our doors to feel safe, seen, and supported.

The therapy space is currently accessed via three flights of stairs. If you have any mobility needs, please just let me know—I’ll do everything I can to meet you at a more accessible level or arrange a venue that works better for you.

If there’s anything else that could help make your sessions more comfortable—whether that’s sensory needs, communication preferences, or anything else- I'm always happy to make reasonable adjustments. Just ask.

The therapeutic spaces are gently lit with low-arousal lighting to create a calm, soothing environment—especially helpful for those with sensory sensitivities.

And most importantly: you are welcome here. I'm proud to have an inclusive, affirming practice. I am a LGBTQIA+ ally, trans ally, body positive, sex positive, and kink friendly. Walk and Talk Therapy

Let’s take therapy outside!

When most people picture therapy, they imagine a tiny room, two chairs, strip lights and a box of tissues. But it doesn’t have to look like that!

What is Walk and Talk Therapy?
It’s exactly what it sounds like—therapy while walking side by side outdoors, instead of sitting face-to-face in a traditional room. For many people, this can feel a lot more natural and less intense. The relaxed pace of walking (or even just sitting together in nature) can make it easier to open up and talk freely. And don’t worry—it’s not a hike unless you want it to be! You don’t have to walk far at all. Some clients prefer a gentle stroll, others like to sit on a bench surrounded by trees and birdsong. Both are perfect. Walk and Talk Therapy falls under something called eco-psychotherapy—which simply means combining the healing power of therapy with the calming energy of the natural world.

Why try therapy outdoors?
Spending time in nature has been shown to boost your mood, reduce anxiety and stress, ease symptoms of depression, and even increase your self-esteem. Plus, movement can help your thoughts and feelings flow more freely—especially if sitting still feels tricky or uncomfortable.

How does it work?
We’ll start with an initial consultation (either online or face-to-face) to see if outdoor therapy feels like a good fit for you. My practice Boston Spa practice of Dare Amour is based literally on the beautiful River Wharfe, with a peaceful, accessible walking route and plenty of quiet spots to stop and chat. There are benches tucked away in calming, private places that make for perfect outdoor therapy spaces.

And yes—dogs are welcome! If you’d like to bring your pup along for emotional support, they’re more than invited. Extra hugs time added.

If you’re curious about trying Walk and Talk Therapy, just reach out—I’d love to chat and help you explore if it’s the right path for you.

Mens Mental Health

Let's Talk About It

Hey guys, let’s talk.
We know that for many men, opening up about emotions can feel unfamiliar—or even off-limits. Whether it’s society’s expectations, old-school ideas about “toughness,” or just not knowing where to start, too many men end up struggling in silence. And that silence can really take a toll.

Here are a few tough truths:

  • Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.

  • The highest suicide rates in the UK are among men aged 40–49.

  • Men tend to report lower life satisfaction than women.

  • Only 36% of NHS talking therapy referrals are for men.

  • Men are more likely to go missing, sleep rough, or develop dependencies on alcohol or drugs.

These aren’t just stats—they’re real lives. And they show how important it is for men to have spaces where they feel safe to talk, reflect, and be supported.

Here’s the good news:
Therapy can be a powerful tool. It’s not about being broken—it’s about being human. Working with a therapist can help you process your past, make sense of your present, and build a better path forward. It can also help you become more aware of your emotional patterns, so you can spot the signs when things aren’t quite right—and know what to do about it.

Maybe you’re feeling low and unsure why.

Maybe there are some sexual issues or compulsive sexual behaviours- embarrassing? Nope- I actually spend a lot of my week dealing with this and guess what...? I am not embarrassed at all!
Maybe something from your past is still weighing on you.
Maybe work stress, money worries, or relationship problems are piling up.
Maybe your confidence has taken a knock.
Maybe drinking or drug use is creeping in more than you’d like.
Whatever it is—you don’t have to figure it out alone.

If this resonates with you, please know: support is here, and it’s confidential, judgment-free, and built around you. Taking that first step doesn’t mean you’re weak—it means you’re ready to take care of yourself. Remember, coming to see me is private and we will know about it.

You deserve to feel better. And I’d be honoured to support you on that journey.

Gender Diverse and Trans Clients

Therapeutic Support for Gender Diverse and Transgender People

Navigating the world as a gender diverse or transgender person can come with unique joys, challenges, and complexities. Whether you’re exploring your gender identity, in the midst of transitioning, or simply looking for a safe and affirming space to talk, therapy can be a powerful and supportive part of your journey.

I offer a warm, inclusive, and non-judgmental space where your identity will be respected and affirmed—exactly as you are. I understand that no two gender journeys are the same, and that your experience deserves to be seen in its full richness and individuality. Together, we can explore anything that feels important to you—whether that’s coming out, navigating relationships, dealing with dysphoria, finding confidence in your identity, processing past trauma, or managing everyday stress and anxiety.

I work from a gender-affirming, trauma-informed, and client-led approach, which means you are always in control of the pace, focus, and direction of your therapy. I will never make assumptions or pathologize your identity, and I will always be led by your language and lived experience.

As an LGBTQIA+ ally and trans-affirming therapist, I also recognise the broader systemic and social pressures that may impact your well-being, and I offer support that is both compassionate and culturally competent. Whether you are just beginning to question your gender or have long been living as your authentic self, you are welcome here.

You deserve care that honours your whole self—and I’m here to walk alongside you as you grow, heal, and move forward in whatever way feels right for you.

I

I also offer a trans female image consultancy for those ladies who may need support in developing their look. This service can also involve home visits, shopping trips and collaborative work with trans friendly beauty therapists in a supportive and safe explorative capacity.

Issues of Intimacy

Don't Suffer In Silence

Let’s talk about intimacy—with compassion, not shame.

Discovering that you're struggling with an issue of an intimate nature can feel overwhelming. It can knock your confidence, affect how you feel about yourself, and even impact your relationships with the people you care about most. It’s totally natural to want to hide from the problem or try to ignore it—but you really don’t have to go through it alone.

Reaching out can feel like a big step, and I completely understand that. But many clients tell me that once they get that first session out of the way, they feel a huge sense of relief. We’ll take things at your pace, and I promise—there’s very little I haven’t come across before. Most people are surprised at just how relaxed and easy the conversation feels once we begin.

I offer a kind, confidential, and solution-focused space where we can work through a wide range of concerns together, including:

  • Building sexual confidence and navigating body image issues

  • Exploring confusion around sexuality or preferences

  • Erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation

  • Sex, love, or pornography addiction

  • Sexual phobias

  • Female sexual difficulties

  • Rebuilding intimacy after trauma, illness, or a long period of abstinence

  • Communication and connection in polyamorous relationships

  • Kinks or fetishes that are starting to feel unmanageable

  • Sex and sensory issues

Because of the sensitive nature of this work, I often offer remote sessions, which many people find more comfortable and discreet. To begin, I kindly ask that you book an initial session so we can explore your needs and how I can best support you—brief phone calls are just for outlining what therapy might look like. And just to be clear: this is a professional therapeutic service. Any inappropriate contact, including unsolicited media or messages, will be reported to the police. (I know .... sounds a bit intense, but sadly it happens to me - a lot!)

You deserve to feel confident, connected, and empowered in every area of your life—including the intimate ones. When you’re ready, I’m here to help.

Self Esteem and Body Image

Love the skin you're in!

Let’s talk about feeling good in your own skin.

In a world full of picture-perfect images and filtered reality, it’s easy to feel like you’re falling short. But here’s the truth: real beauty doesn’t come with one definition—and you don’t need to be “perfect” (whatever that even means!) to live a full, happy, and amazing life.

We all have moments of self-doubt. That little voice inside that tells you you're not good enough, smart enough, attractive enough... It can be loud—and it can hold you back from so many things. Whether it’s going for the job you really want, meeting someone special, showing up confidently in social settings, or just looking in the mirror and feeling okay with what you see—it’s all possible. Truly.

That kind of confidence doesn’t come from changing who you are. It comes from changing how you see yourself—and that’s exactly where therapy can help. Everyone—regardless of gender or identity—has moments where they feel like they’re “not enough.” But have you ever stopped to ask yourself where that feeling really comes from? Whose standards are you measuring yourself against? And are they even realistic?

Together, we can dig into what’s behind those thoughts and rewrite the story you’re telling yourself. Let’s build a mindset that lifts you up instead of weighing you down.

✨ Because here’s the thing: you’re amazing, just as you are. And if you don’t believe it yet, let’s work together to change that. ✨

Sometimes, body image struggles go deeper and become overwhelming—and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. You might be dealing with something like Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), which can feel all-consuming. If you’re constantly fixating on one part of your body, avoiding mirrors, comparing yourself to others, or going to great lengths to hide what you see as “flaws,” please know you’re not alone—and you can get support.

You deserve to feel comfortable, confident, and empowered in your own body. If you’re ready to take that first step, I’m here and I’d love to walk that path with you, it's a path I have walked myself.

🧩 Autism Support Through Therapy & Coaching

Living with Autism can bring a unique blend of strengths and challenges—and understanding those experiences in a safe, non-judgmental environment can make all the difference. Whether you’ve recently received a diagnosis, are exploring whether you're autistic, or are supporting a loved one who is, you are welcome here.

I specialise in working with autistic individuals and their families, offering a thoughtful, tailored approach that supports emotional wellbeing, self-understanding, and practical social development.

💬 Social Confidence & Communication

One of my passions is supporting people who find social interaction difficult. Whether it's anxiety around group settings, confusion about social cues, or challenges with forming and maintaining relationships, we work together—step by step—in a way that feels manageable and respectful of your pace.

I can support you (or your child) with:

  • Exploring and understanding social interactions

  • Developing social scripts to build confidence and reduce uncertainty

  • Building self-awareness around social cues and unspoken rules

  • Reducing social anxiety in everyday situations

  • Learning to initiate and maintain friendships and relationships

  • Navigating dating and romantic connections

  • Enhancing professional communication and confidence in the workplace

Therapy and coaching sessions are always person-centred, flexible, and designed to reflect your goals—not what society says you "should" be doing. I celebrate neurodiversity and focus on building skills that matter to you.

🤝 Family Support

If you're a parent, carer, or family member, I also offer support to help you:

Better understand the autistic experience

Learn how to support your loved one with empathy and confidence

Reduce stress and misunderstandings at home

Celebrate your loved one's strengths while offering practical help with their challenges

Many families find that just having someone to talk to who gets it can be a huge relief. No matter where you are on your journey, I’m here to help you feel seen, understood, and empowered. Autism isn’t something to "fix"—but support can help you navigate the world more comfortably, connect more easily, and live in a way that’s true to who you are.

Let’s work together to build confidence, deepen relationships, and celebrate your uniqueness.

ADHD Coaching & Support

Whether you’ve recently been diagnosed, are exploring the possibility of being neurodivergent, or have lived with ADHD for years—you are welcome here.

I specialise in working with ADHD clients and their families, offering compassionate, tailored support that meets you where you’re at. Living with ADHD often means navigating a world that wasn’t designed with your brain in mind—and that can be frustrating, exhausting, and overwhelming.

🧠 What is ADHD Coaching?

Neurodivergent coaching is a collaborative, strengths-based approach to help you better understand your unique brain and how it works. It’s not about "fixing" anything—it’s about equipping you with tools, strategies, and insight to thrive in your day-to-day life.

I can help you:

  • Understand how ADHD shows up in your life

  • Build realistic routines and structures that actually work for your brain

  • Develop practical executive functioning skills (like planning, organising, and time management)

  • Improve emotional regulation and reduce overwhelm

  • Boost self-esteem and self-acceptance

Sometimes it’s not just about strategies—it’s about having someone who truly gets it.

👨‍👩‍👧 Support for Families & Loved Ones

If you're a parent, partner, or caregiver of someone with ADHD, you may sometimes feel unsure of how best to support your loved one—or how to take care of yourself in the process. I offer supportive coaching and therapeutic guidance to help you:

  • Understand the ADHD experience from the inside out

  • Navigate emotional challenges and improve communication

  • Set healthy boundaries and expectations

  • Find more harmony and joy in your relationships

Whether it’s helping your child through the school years, supporting a partner, or managing the household dynamic, we’ll work together to make things feel more manageable—and a lot less stressful.

🏫 A Background You Can Trust

Before becoming a therapist, I worked extensively in educational settings, supporting children, teens, and young adults with ADHD and additional needs. I bring that experience into my practice—blending therapeutic insight with practical, hands-on strategies that really work. I also have an ADHD husband and stepson.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, scattered, emotionally drained, or just need someone to talk to who understands what it’s like to live with or love someone with ADHD, please reach out. You don’t have to navigate this alone.

Let’s find what works for you—and build a life that supports your brain, your goals, and your wellbeing.

Lipoedema

Specialist Care From a Therapist Who Understands Your Condition.

Living with Lipoedema: You’re Not Alone

Lipoedema is a long-term condition that causes an abnormal build-up of fat cells, typically in the legs and sometimes the arms. While this may sound straightforward, anyone living with Lipoedema knows it can deeply affect every aspect of life—physically, emotionally, and socially.

Lipoedema is a chronic condition, which means it doesn’t go away. It often causes painful, swollen limbs, and unfortunately, treatment options remain limited. Understandably, this can lead to emotional challenges such as low self-esteem, anxiety, and feelings of isolation.

Many women with Lipoedema experience shame and frustration—often worsened by the fact that the condition is still not widely understood among healthcare professionals. As a result, it’s common for women to be misdiagnosed with obesity and told their symptoms are due to diet or inactivity. For many, this leads to years of being unheard, misjudged, and without the proper support.

Receiving a diagnosis can bring mixed emotions—relief at finally having answers, but also anger or sadness about the delay in recognition and treatment. It’s not uncommon to have spoken to several healthcare providers before finally being diagnosed, often while facing blame or stigma along the way.

The emotional toll of Lipoedema can be heavy. Many women experience depression or anxiety, and begin to withdraw from activities they once enjoyed. Some may even avoid going out or find that their condition affects their relationships and intimacy.

But please know: help is available, and support can make a meaningful difference.

Talking through your experience with a trained professional can be incredibly helpful. Both the NHS and NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) recommend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for managing the psychological impact of long-term conditions like Lipoedema. CBT is a practical, solution-focused approach that helps build coping skills and improve well-being.

Depending on your individual needs, we may also incorporate other therapeutic approaches, such as humanistic therapy, to ensure the support is truly tailored to you. If you're feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or simply ready for support—please don’t hesitate to reach out. You don’t have to face this journey alone. Together, we can work towards improving your emotional well-being and helping you regain a sense of control in living with Lipoedema.

Working With Young People Therapeutically

Support for Teenagers & Their Families

Let’s be honest—teenagers today are under more pressure than ever. With the impact of the pandemic, social media, academic stress, and the challenges of growing up in a fast-paced world, it’s no surprise that so many young people are struggling with their mental and emotional wellbeing.

At Dare Amour, I offer compassionate, down-to-earth therapeutic support for young people aged 13 and over, as well as their parents or carers. Whether your teen is feeling overwhelmed, anxious, angry, withdrawn, or just not quite themselves, I'm here to help.

💬 How I Can Help

With many years of experience supporting young people in schools, alternative provisions, the Youth Offending Team, and through SENDCO and mental health leadership roles, I bring a deep understanding of the issues teenagers face, as well as the wider impact on family dynamics.

Here’s how I can support you and your young person:

  • 1:1 therapy for teenagers – a safe, non-judgmental space to talk, explore feelings, and learn strategies for emotional wellbeing

  • 1:1 therapy for parents – to help you feel more confident and supported in managing your child’s challenges

  • Psycho-education for teens – practical tools and emotional insight to help them better understand and manage their thoughts and behaviours

  • Bespoke strategy planning – tailored approaches to reduce difficult behaviour and improve home life

  • Support with school systems & EHCPs – navigating educational pathways and advocating for what your child needs

  • Home visits – available when needed, to offer support in the environment where issues may arise

💛 A Friendly, Practical Approach

Teenagers don’t need to be “fixed”—they need to feel heard, accepted, and empowered. I meet young people where they are, with warmth, humour, and respect. Therapy sessions are adapted to suit their needs and preferences, whether that’s sitting in a room or going for a walk. I also understand how hard it can be for parents and carers who are worried, tired, and sometimes at a loss for what to do next. You're not alone—and it’s OK to ask for help.

Please get in touch to discuss a plan that works for your family.

Together, we can make a positive difference in your teen’s life—and help you feel more confident navigating the ups and downs of parenting too.

Are Fees the same for all therapy?
Fees are £55 per 50 mins for general sessions

Complusive sexual behaviours therapy £60 per 50 mins

Where can sessions take place?

For some people, talking feels easier when we’re walking side by side rather than sitting face-to-face in a room. That’s why I offer walk and talk therapy—a gentle, natural way to explore thoughts and feelings while surrounded by the calming beauty of the outdoors. My practice is based right on the banks of the stunning River Wharfe, offering the perfect setting for relaxed, open conversations. If you’d like to bring your dog along for extra support—wonderful! They’re more than welcome.

I also have a practice in Upper Poppleton in York. This practice is located in a large annex at my main house.

If getting out and about is tricky for you, I also offer home visits on an individual basis for an additional fee. This can be a great option if you feel more comfortable in your own space.

And if you're not local—no problem at all. Because of the specialist nature of my work, I see clients from across the UK and even internationally. We can connect easily and securely through Google Meet, so wherever you are, we can work together in a way that suits you.

If you’re interested in exploring any of these options, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s find the right way to support your journey.

What my Clients say....

Client Feedback

"I cannot put into words the difference that Katie has made to my life. As an abuse survivor, I had issues around certain body parts being touched. Katie was not only empathetic and supportive, but she also gave me strategies that I am now able to use in relations with my husband. Not once did I feel embarrassed, judged or silly explaining my difficulties. Katie made me feel very comfortable and provided a safe and open space to guide our conversation. I would recommend Katie to anyone who needs support. She is fantastic!"

"I went to see Katie regarding issues around body image. The problem that I had was having such a negative impact on everything in my life. We worked together over 12 sessions and I can honestly say these sessions saved my marriage. The way I feel about myself has changed so much for the better that I feel happier than I have ever done. I was worried that seeing a female therapist might not be right for me as a male but Katie makes you feel comfortable talking about even the most embarrassing of issues. Thanks for making such a difference for me!"

"I'm a trans woman and I was feeling very anxious about my transition. I had lots of different concerns that had become overwhelming and I recognised that I was becoming depressed and lonely. Katie was amazing from the first session, she makes you feel that you're chatting with someone who really cares and who passes no judgement. Not only did she help me reduce my anxieties but my confidence really has increased too. I am so grateful I met Katie when I did and I will never forget the difference she made for me."

"I worked with Katie for just over a year when I needed help developing my self esteem and body image. Katie helped me learn my worth and we ended up doing dating coaching as well. I found the confidence to get out there and meet people and after feeling empowered enough to actually ask a man out that I liked - I am now engaged to him! Without Katie's help there is no way that I would have ever have had the confidence to even have approached a guy, never mind ask one out. I can't believe how much my life has changed."
